At the place where I work we practice what we call “ROI-Centric” web design. One of our core philosophies is that a good website doesn’t have to be an expense — it can be an investment that is designed to pay for itself many, many times over.

Through our experience we have found that our customers are typically investing in a website for one of a few reasons (in order of popularity):

1. To generate leads and bring in new business
2. To streamline operations (post forms, collect information, inform customers, etc.)
3. To strengthen, support or augment a brand message
4. To actually build a business platform (often in the case of web applications)

Our customers hire us because we’re act more like partners than vendors. We see what needs to be done and why, then we draw upon our vast experience and knowledge of internet marketing to design and build a strategy and solution that accomplishes a business objective.

I thought it was a good reminder about finding joy in what we do. Too many people choose their career based on “how much money can I make doing this?” instead of finding something that they might really enjoy.
